Dominic Veliz

Clinic Director

Dominic Veliz's passion for physical therapy grew from a lifelong love of sport and a deep curiosity about the human body. Growing up playing baseball and football, he developed an early appreciation for physical fitness and athletic performance. After experiencing sports injuries of his own and seeing the impact a sports physical therapist can have on recovery, Dominic knew he wanted to pursue the same path. His time in college working as an equipment manager for the school's Division I football team — where he shadowed the athletic training and strength and conditioning staffs — confirmed his desire to work with athletes and help them return to sport safely and without fear of reinjury.

Dominic earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Delaware, ranked number one in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. He went on to complete a sports physical therapy residency program, earning his Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) certification. His residency included over 200 hours of field coverage across sports such as rugby, football, ice hockey, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, baseball, ultimate frisbee, and crew. He has also completed coursework in dry needling.

Over the past three years, Dominic has built extensive experience treating a wide range of post-operative conditions — including ACL reconstructions, total knee, shoulder, and hip replacements, Achilles tendon repairs, rotator cuff repairs, thoracic and lumbar fusions, and other common upper and lower extremity procedures. He has also provided sideline healthcare coverage during practices and competitions for high schools across Alexandria and Fairfax County as well as George Mason University. While at the University of Delaware, Dominic worked alongside Dr. Karin Silbernagel, assisting with research involving ultrasound imaging and performance testing for Achilles tendon injuries, including tendinopathies and post-operative repairs.

Dominic enjoys treating athletes of all kinds, with a particular passion for overhead athletes — including baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball players. His combination of residency training, extensive post-operative experience, field coverage across numerous sports, and research involvement allows him to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to athletes at every level. He has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and its Sports Section since 2023.
