Dr. Ahmaad Bastien

PT, DPT

Ahmaad Bastien’s path to physical therapy is rooted in deep personal experience, community pride, and a lifelong connection to movement. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Ahmaad’s story is shaped by his family’s immigrant roots—his heritage tracing back to Jamaica and Haiti—and by the resilience instilled in him by those who came before him. His calling to physical therapy became clear in 2011, when he witnessed the impact of rehabilitation on his grandmother as she battled cancer. Watching her regain her strength affirmed his desire to pursue a profession where he could help others reclaim their independence. That same year, Ahmaad suffered a patellar tendon rupture playing basketball—giving him firsthand insight into the patient experience and fueling his interest in musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation.

Ahmaad earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Morgan State University in 2019 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy from High Point University in 2025. His journey began in undergrad as a student athletic trainer, supporting men’s basketball, football, track and field, and tennis. That early exposure led to a one-day internship with the Baltimore Ravens’ rehab team and coaching staff. He also worked as a rehab assistant at the Rehabilitation Institute of Advanced Orthopedics and as a TBI/CVA rehab assistant at the University of Maryland—gaining valuable experience in both orthopedic and neurological rehab settings.

Throughout his education and clinical training, Ahmaad developed a wide range of interests. He’s especially passionate about treating sports-related injuries and neuro-based conditions. Influential mentors helped shape his clinical focus: Tania Brown, PT, MPT introduced him to neurorehabilitation; Anil Bhave, PT sparked his fascination with limb dysfunction; and Jeremy Alter, DScPT deepened his expertise in shoulder injuries.

A lifelong athlete himself, Ahmaad grew up playing baseball, basketball, and football. His athletic background, coupled with over a decade of exposure to rehab settings, gives him a unique perspective as a clinician. He understands the physical and emotional toll injuries can take and is committed to providing holistic, personalized care that empowers his patients to move better and live fully.

Ahmaad is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is involved in community initiatives in both Baltimore and North Carolina, raising awareness about health and access to care. His mission is not only to heal but also to give back—to uplift his community through education, advocacy, and action.

Ahmaad Bastien brings heart, experience, and hometown pride to the field of physical therapy—building stronger patients and stronger communities, one step at a time.
